What This Means for Buyers, Sellers & Our Community

By Michele Engleman, Compass Real Estate – San Diego

One of the things I love most about helping people find their home in San Diego is how deeply each neighborhood feels like its own little world. And this week, Nextdoor released its 2026 Friendliest Neighborhoods list—an annual look at where neighbors are most supportive, welcoming, and engaged. As someone who spends every day walking these streets, talking with residents, and helping families plant roots, I can tell you: these results truly reflect the heart of our city.

According to Nextdoor’s new rankings, Pacific Highlands Ranch earned the No. 1 spot for the friendliest neighborhood in San Diego. This community has always stood out for its strong sense of connection—neighbors helping neighbors, active local groups, and a shared pride in keeping the area vibrant and welcoming.

Following closely behind were:

Kensington at No. 2
Westwood at No. 3
Rolando at No. 4
Seven Oaks at No. 5
Nextdoor’s “Friendliness Score” looks at positive interactions, fulfilled requests for help, neighborhood pride, and even how often people share free items or welcome new residents. In other words, it measures the real fabric of community life—something that matters deeply when choosing where to live.

As a real estate agent, I see firsthand how much these qualities influence a buyer’s experience. A friendly neighborhood isn’t just a nice bonus; it’s a lifestyle. It’s kids playing outside, neighbors who look out for one another, and a sense of belonging that you can’t put a price on.

If you’re exploring a move within San Diego—or relocating here from elsewhere—these rankings offer a helpful starting point. But every neighborhood has its own personality, and the best fit depends on your lifestyle, priorities, and long‑term goals.

If you’d like help discovering which San Diego community feels like “home,” I’d love to guide you.

Nextdoor Names San Diego’s Friendliest Neighborhoods for 2026 — Here’s What Buyers Should Know
By Michele Engleman, Compass Real Estate

Nextdoor just released its 2026 Friendliest Neighborhoods in San Diego list, and the results highlight something I see every day in my work: community connection is one of the most valuable assets a neighborhood can offer.

This year’s top five include:

Pacific Highlands Ranch
Kensington
Westwood
Rolando
Seven Oaks
These rankings are based on Nextdoor’s “Friendliness Score,” which analyzes positive posts, fulfilled requests for help, neighborhood pride, and even how often residents share free items or welcome newcomers.

Why does this matter in real estate? Because community engagement directly impacts quality of life and long‑term property value. Friendly neighborhoods tend to have:

Higher resident satisfaction
Stronger local business support
More stable long‑term ownership
Better-maintained homes and streets
A sense of safety and connection that buyers consistently seek
Pacific Highlands Ranch topping the list comes as no surprise—its walkable design, active community groups, and family‑friendly amenities make it one of the most desirable areas in North County.
